Diagnosed with AS
Thanks so much Pitac will be reading for sure.
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I had extreme IBS/D then Chron's 10+ years ago. I had a Gastroenterologist suggest the FODMAP diet to me. I went on that and that 6+ year life changing challenge finally came to an end. My gut went back to the dependable clock-work like nature it always was before hardcore antibiotics turned my gut into a desert wasteland unable to hold water, literally. It was extreme. Im not a dieter, but i learned that when miserable enough, especially in the gut, I'll try anything. Nothing else worked. I stay on this diet, no problems. I also found adding a high quality probiotic to be very helpful as well.
Good luck finding what works for you Darlene. Interestingly, many people find resolution to all their inflammatory problems when they gt their gut straightened out. Theres a lot of medical science that supports the gut to body to brain connection. It makes sense when you think about it. What goes in must come out one way or another. Put good stuff in, only good comes out, put bad stuff in, expect to get bad stuff out. And it doesn't always cone out in the toilet.
Now that i think about it, that could be why ive been battling a flare off and on the past few days. Ive been polishing a bag of popcorners left over from my daughter's recent visit. Ultra processed evil food that tastes so yummy but has a bad bite-back. 😋😩
I so so agree with you Pitac. What goes in must come out not good sometimes. Recently added Yogart and sauerkraut to my diet which are probiotics. Prebiotics such as bananas , greens and whole grains. I’m off of sugar, fried foods, and processed foods. I DONOT take them as supplements. I have not done the Fodmap but I have done Bland diet for my diarrhea. It works for a few days but then doesn’t.
Thanks so much for your advice.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is common among people with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). IBS can cause painful bloating and changes in bowel movements. It’s treated with:
- Dietary changes

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. If diarrhea is your IBS problem, you want to make sure that your yogurt is lactose free, SO makes a coconut milk based one, just check the fat content on it. High sat fats are bad for IBS, especially IBS-D. Some of their flavors are high Sat fats such as the coconut flavor, some ate low such as the vanilla flavor. Also, sauerkraut is cabbage, very problematic for IBS-D. It's a bit blurry. But here's a screenshot and you can pull up the website for a better pic.
