Is It Typical To Have Sudden Weight Gain That Goes Along With A Flare Up? .

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Santa Barbara, CA

My weight can go up 3-5 lbs in a short period of time with no change in my first or exercise. I have Hashimotos along with AS and I can never tell which problem my gut issues and pain are related to but they always go together. I gain weight/bloat at the same time as my pain increases. It's just feels like adding insult to injury.

I never thought of it, but when I have an AS flare-up I do get upset and feel nasty. They seem to ease up at about the same time. Hmmm, interesting 🤔. I don't have an answer.
Hugs, feel better.

Sorry you're having these issues. I have AS and Hashimoto's too. It seems I have bloating all the time and haven't found a reason for it. Our bodies sure can do some injury to us! Hope you find relief. Hugs, Wanda

Glad to know it's not just me. I've been on a valid elimination diets (AIP, no gluten, dairy, night shades, garlic, beans, grains, sugar, caffeine, etc) for about 6-8 years and it's never a cure all. It just comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. This time around it's been going on for many months and the weight gain and extreme pain is really getting old.
My doctor's never believe me that it's all related. They just look at my numbers and say your fine on paper. Ugh. So frustrating.

Thanks for sharing Wanda. I was told that one you have one autoimmune your more likely to get another. I've been waiting a long time for a diagnosis and now I have it. It gives me a name for my issues but I don't feel like the diagnosis gave me any more ways to deal with it.
Do you have a hard time figuring out the difference between the Hashi storm and an AS flare up? Or are they always related?

I'm starting an anti-inflammatory diet to see if that helps with my inflammation and the water retention. It's been a never-ending battle. Hope you have a restful night. Hugs, Wanda
