I use a thin pillow between my knees to help with side sleeping. For back sleeping, I use a thin pillow for my head and a thick pillow for under my knees. Sometimes it helps, but I still have a lot of bad nights.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I can relate to waking up feeling like you're being crushed Patricia. That's how i woke up this morning. I'm pretty sure my pain this morning is due to me not moving around much the past 4 days post surgery. The drugs and immobility feel like my body has been pumped full of gas while being squeezed. Ugh. Another reason to avoid surgery.
Unfortunately, i just don't have enough details from you to offer any suggestions for you to possibly make it better. Hopefully one of the AI generated responses or someone else here can offer insight and suggestions for you to help yourself.
Upper back pain is common with costochondroitis as well as over exertion. Theses are the non-serious causes that can be remedied with stretching and gentle exercises with massage. Mention it to your dr at your next visit. ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ™

A week ago my upper back hurt, I sleep on my back to relieve pain but I wake up with a lot of pain. I can't sleep on my side because it causes some pain in my lower back.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Exactly where in your back is your pain? Is it sharp or dull? Do any other body parts have pain? What position are you in when the pain wakes you up? How old is your mattress? Is it hard or soft? Does it have springs? The above AI generated answer is helpful and i do this. The thickness and placement of the pillow under my head makes a big difference for my neck pain. Do you have neck pain? Do you place your shoulder on top of your pillow or beneath it? All these are to consider for spine problems. ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ™
