How much protein?

Depends, I eat alot because I lift weights. My goal is around 150g of protein a day.

If you aren't looking for muscle growth, you don't need much.

In fact I get my sources not only from animals, but plant too.

Personally eating healthy isn't hard unless you make it hard.

No fast food, no greasy foods, no unnecessary sweets, no soda ect.

Low fat meat and plant protein with vegetables and fruits is my way to go.

Chicken, beef, pork, eggs, fish, soy-protein, yogurt/dairy, fruit smoothie. The list is endless.

100% doable.

Indeed it is. It's a full time job for people like us. When I looked up how many grams of protein I need per day, most sites say 1.2 TO 2 grams per kilo of body weight for women who are active or trying to build muscle. This amount is easier to remember by simply taking pound weight and halving that amount. What a relief that you can do the math😄😉.

I have Psoriatic Spondylitis, a soft tissue first disease of inflammation and degradation. From my days of active weight liftting I recalled that protein is easential for muscle repair after a weight training workout. I considered what i typically eat in a day and realized that i was getting half of what i need. When i started making a point of getting 60-70 grams per day i significantly improved in energy and mental clarity when not flaring. As i type this, in a flare, im hypothesizing that maybe i should increase that amount when flaring to closer to 80 grams🤔. I'll try it and report back if it helps me out of the flare. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information "proteins catalyze virtually all chemical reactions in the body, regulate gene expression, comprise the major structural elements of all cells, regulate the immune system, and form the major constituents of muscle".

One more significant dietary improvement i made has been to make a point of consuming a minimum of 6 different types of plant sourced foods each day. Previously i was only getting 2 or 3. Now i typically get 8. A smoothie is an easy way to do this. Food is medicine or poison. Those of us who have a lifelong debilitating illness must treat our bodies every day as though we are in a constant state of recovering. Recovery of health will never happen without good nutrition, higher than non recovering bodies need. We really are what we eat. Eating better might not heal us 100%, but it wont hurt us, will most likely keep us from getting as bad off as we can get, and might make us better.

Bon apetit Melissa! 😋

@MelissaGorring. I find it helpful to add one scoop of protein powder to my morning coffee, i drink 2 cups with one scoop in each. Half your body weight in protein grams per day, not to exceed 100 total grams, is necessary for basic bodily function plus healing/body tissue repair. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, 60 grams protein per day is your target. I hope this helps.

Being healthy is so so hard! Much agreed! I’d say try to change one thing at a time instead of everything all at once. It takes time!
