Does Anyone Get An Electric Shock Like Pain Under Their Foot?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Stockport, UK

I can be sitting down and I get this strange pain in the middle of my foot underneath. I get a similar pain in my wrist sometimes too but am not sure what is causing it.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member Nolan - Hi Girlchick - I get 'em too! Those electric sharp pain STABS in the heel of my foot straight back up my ankle and leg - they come outta NOWHERE and feel like someone struck a railroad spike UP the center of my heel with a 5 lb tack hammer! They can also feel like a rash of sharp prickly pins in my toes and across the ball of my feet that hit so hard - they'll take your breath away for a moment! Thankfully they don't last long or I wouldn't be able to stand them at all!

I get raised bumpy "sunburn" rashes that look and FEEL "sunburned" on my feet and legs - sometimes on my neck, across my chest & arms as well - ALL attributed to nerve damage from Diabetic Neuropathy - They usually only happen when I'm in severe pain flares.

Realize with any or multiple inflammatory process{es} like fibro & Itis'es - our brain's and central nervous systems are always set on STUN - and get crossed and seriously amped UP pain "signals". The severe "rash" and sunburn sensations as my neuro explained after my 2nd ACDF surgery - was my body's "hysterical reaction" to being in severe {post-op} pain! They see this condition with pettichiae more in babies - who can't TELL you how much pain they're in.

I also have Reyes Syndrome in BOTH feet and hands that was diagnosed a year or so back when I developed weird blue toes with blistery looking specks - when my doc all but jumped BACK after touching my fingers in both my hands and feet feeling like ICE cubes!

I started taking L-Arginine -1000 mgs daily that helps tremendously with circulation especially in the lower extremities. I also have to keep my feet WARM and wear compression hose every single day - even in our crazy HOT summers so my feet and ankles don't swell up like pontoons! Magnesium seems to help with that and sciatica too - I say that because they've been less frequent and swelling is a LOT easier to control.

That swelling is yet another reason for my power everything wheelchair with tilt and recline features - NOW I get WHY anyone would need to recline in a wheelchair! That thing can recline so far back my toes are pointing at the ceiling on days when nothing seems to help the swelling go down.

Hope your situation gets better for you Love - We're ALL right there with ya in that mystery new symptom boat! Hugs - Teri

Yes - I have neuropathy and I believe the sudden pain in the foot is from that. Thankfully it goes away quickly. BTW - I've been on Gabapentin (Neurontin) for years and I don't think it helps either my neuropathy or my AS.

I agree 100%, humor(of any form) has saved me so many times I've lost count. As well as the little thing's: a flower, an orange tree, a bird chirping in the yard, a dog's distant bark...

Even my medical team agrees with the humor no matter what type. My doctor tells me it is extremely healthy to destress and humor helps hugely.

May you ladies and everyone else on this wonderful site have a well and beautiful day with a better tomorrow!

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member - Ohh I totally HEAR you on how much our kitties fill our lives.
My Tiger is about all the cat I can manage and my daughter teases me about NOT getting another one and becoming that crazy old cat lady!

What I fear most is that she raised him from birth to his now almost 7 years old... I got him when he was 5 years old. The odd thing is he thinks he's a dog sometimes being raised with a Pomeranian in my daughter's house and four other cats. So when he's being more than a little nuisance rub rub rubbing on my legs so hard it HURTS - while I'm NOT getting his food dish washed and filled with his breakfast - or he starts opening cabinet doors around my legs &/or slamming them... If you tell him quite STERNLY- "Tiger - SIT!!!" - He DOES! Course he's never too sure if he'll have to dodge a snap from a rolled dish towel or a flick of water on my hands if he doesn't QUIT already!

My fear is that when he dies - I won;t find another one as well behaved as he is or as sweet and affectionate. The ONE place I NEVER let him into is my bed room - much as I would LOVE the company - My BED is one place I don't want to inhale cat hair in my nose or eyes. That and he will NOT be still at night if I try to let him sleep over. So it just works out best that he has "his" bath/ bedroom and I have mine. That way we can both enjoy a little down time. That's also why I have to wait till Himself goes to bed so I can spin or knit or whatever without complaint.

When I get up and give him half his tin of food so he won't inhale it ALL at once and yak it right back up - is to Spin for the half hour or so after he's been brushed too... Then he sits up on his PVC kitty perch / bed I built for him and "talks" or whines to me that he's still HUNGRY... And if THAT doesn't work - He does this piteefulll "Poooor Dead Kittt-tennn Plop" like in the photo below - He bloody KNOWS I'm a total sucker for that one! Who could refuse this little face??? - He STILL has to wait that 30 minutes before he gets the other half his breakfast!

Sending E-Hugs and happy Meeowwws... Teri

I started getting random (when I stepped down just right) shooting nerve pain from mid foot up thru the bottom of my 4th toe. It was diagnosed as Morton's neuroma, thickening of the nerve sheath that feels like stepping on a pebble to some people. I got a cortisone injection and the sharp pain was lessened to a dull nerve sensation.
