Elevated CRP (C-Reactive Protein) levels can indicate high disease activity in people with spondylitis. CRP blood tests detect elevated levels in only 40 to 50 percent of people with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) because inflammation fluctuates. Elevated CRP levels may suggest that a person might benefit from biologic treatment. Rheumatologists use CRP levels to help predict treatment response.
