It was a painful procedure and did not relieve the pain. Next day pain was worse that it was before the shots. Still have not improved. Wondering why?

Members shared mixed experiences with medial branch blocks for lumbar spine pain, with some finding relief that lasted anywhere from a few weeks to six months, while others experienced no benefit or worsening pain, particularly when spinal degeneration was advanced. Several members described the progression from nerve blocks to nerve ablation procedures, noting that results vary widely from person to person, with some achieving long-lasting relief and others finding that nerves grew back and pain returned. A recurring theme was the importance of thorough diagnostic testing when blocks fail, including nerve conduction studies and inflammatory markers, and advocating for clear agreements with doctors about next steps like spinal cord stimulators or additional procedures.

If the degeneration of the spine is too severe they quit working.

Yes, nerves grow back in some people and ave to keep burning them. If it’s that nd I wonder if spinal cord tumult or would help. But they have to get it in the right spot or will cause more pain and not help and then they sometimes don’t want to take it out. So get in writing that they wil removed it if not happy with it.

I have consultation with my Dr tomorrow. My thought is that the spondylosis has advanced too far for it to help. We see what the Dr says. I appreciate the infro. Thank-you

i had steroid shots multiple times, those just wore off too quickly and eventually did nothing. They went straight to nerve burns after that, Those are the two i described prior. That was many many years ago before they even tested prior or called it ablation. I was awake the whole time and they poked various places while looking on the image from the C-arm. It was brutal but worth it the first round. My friend had ablation and her pain never came back. It varies for each person.

i had those twice, the first time it took a few days for it to relieve some of the pain, Relief lasted almost 6 months. The second on lasted less than a month , so i gave up on them.
