Degenerative Disk Disease Or AS

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Beaumont, TX

I had some x-rays done yesterday. Cervical and Lumbar. Last time I had any done my cervical had degenerative disk and bone spurs. It was moderate to severe DDD. Thoraic was mild to moderate Ddd. Lumbar was fine no Ddd.
The x ray yesterday showed Ddd in Lumbar and sclerosis and scoliosis.
Do I have DDD or AS or both? Dr. Wants to start me on Humira. If it’s DDD I don’t need to get on biologics. I am HLA-B27 positive. Also I have problems with both of my Achilles tendon.

The first rheumatologist I went to was in Houston. She diagnosed me with AS. She didn’t have good bedside manner so I found one in my hometown. I really like her. When I first went to her she said she thought I had DDD or DISH. Then maybe a year later she said AS. I have tried Sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine. I can’t tolerate them. So she wants to try me on Humira.
Everything in my x-ray report says DDD. I have not talked to Dr. yet. I guess my question is does AS cause DDD.

Diagnoses are subjective amongst drs depending on their experiences. Multiple factors to determine. As a complete lay person patient like yourself, I'd guess AS but, how would I know for sure? What did the dr diagnose you with? What type of dr is he/she? Usually it's a Rheumatologist who determines, but I've heard of Orthopedic drs, dermatologists, and other specialties we don't have in the US. Humira is the first line of authorized by the insurance industry biologics, whether or not you have TNF-a active molecules causing your disease activity. Most of the time they don't test for it in your blood even though a test for it exists. I tried 5 bios, did nothing for me, made me worse, quit, now Im awesome on nothing but high nutrition and exercise with some stem cells tossed in. Good luck. Let us know what you do and how it turns out. 😌🙏

I started with DDD now they call it AS . I do not take any drugs.

I see a Korean Acupuncture doctor & he uses his hands to adjust th joints in my body.

I see him 2 times a month.
I do not have pain.
