Torn Hip Labrums - Who Has This, Describe How It Feels, What Are You Doing For It?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ
Fort Walton Beach, FL

I have a one quadrant tear on the left, two quadrant tear on the right. The rest of the hip joint is good on both sides, occasional bursitis flare, lesion in the marrow of one femur trochanter, but no need for full replacement yet so I'm not keen on arthritis scope surgery to repair the labrums because I figure I'll eventually need full replacement of the joint anyway. I'll wait for that to fix it all at once. Minimize number of times under general anesthesia. ๐Ÿ˜

I'm wondering if anyone hasโ€ฆ read more

I had mine repaired and it was painful. It took about 9 months to a year to heal and walk without thinking about it. I was 43 so they didn't want to do a replacement but I understand a replacement is so much easier. Anyway, I am still all biological material but I am not against being like terminator. The hip labrum was so much easier than the ACL I had replaced in Sept 2023. Still struggling to walk.
I am not sure if the labrum repair did anything to help me with me pain I was suffering but I guess it must have taken a bit of pain away. I guess I am saying based on your age, I would go replacement. It hurts and it takes a very long time to walk properly again. It is not at all as hard as knee surgery though.

Work to strengthen your muscles. I had a shoulder labral tear which my surgeon would not let me return to work unless it was repaired. I had it repaired and 5 years later, a young lady was texting and rear ended my car. The repair was torn and Iโ€™m looking at a shoulder replacement. Absolutely will not replace the shoulder. Plus I just had a massive heart attack so no surgeon will touch me. Keep your body strong. Good luck.

Iโ€™m sorry Pitac. My hips hurt but they seem to kids of ignore them like they arenโ€™t there. They lump it with the back and call it sacro-iliac syndrome. Hum maybe they arenโ€™t there? Let me checkโ€ฆyep there they are! Wish I could help.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Thanks so much for your fast reply Emily! I kind of think I might recall you talking about it. Yeah, I suspected as much. I've had enough surgeries to know that you never completely quit feeling pain or discomfort whether surgery occurs or not, and that it takes about 4 times longer than they tell you it will to feel better, enough to say that you're "recovered" even when in great shape otherwise. Despite my advancing years ๐Ÿ˜, my hips are not arthritic yet despite injuries from sports and accidents. They won't do full hip replacement until the joint is grinding away bone on bone. I can get arthroscopic labrum repair, but im not keen on nearly a year recovery just to have to eventually do it all again anyway. Thanks, again, for sharing your experience.๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ™
