Torn Hip Labrums - Who Has This, Describe How It Feels, What Are You Doing For It?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Fort Walton Beach, FL

I have a one quadrant tear on the left, two quadrant tear on the right. The rest of the hip joint is good on both sides, occasional bursitis flare, lesion in the marrow of one femur trochanter, but no need for full replacement yet so I'm not keen on arthritis scope surgery to repair the labrums because I figure I'll eventually need full replacement of the joint anyway. I'll wait for that to fix it all at once. Minimize number of times under general anesthesia. 😏

I'm wondering if anyone has… read more

I had mine repaired and it was painful. It took about 9 months to a year to heal and walk without thinking about it. I was 43 so they didn't want to do a replacement but I understand a replacement is so much easier. Anyway, I am still all biological material but I am not against being like terminator. The hip labrum was so much easier than the ACL I had replaced in Sept 2023. Still struggling to walk.
I am not sure if the labrum repair did anything to help me with me pain I was suffering but I guess it must have taken a bit of pain away. I guess I am saying based on your age, I would go replacement. It hurts and it takes a very long time to walk properly again. It is not at all as hard as knee surgery though.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Thank you so much Cassandra for sharing your experience. In late October i had an autologous (my own cells) adipose fat derived stem cell transplant for it. The science sounded good. My personal opinion 6 weeks later is a recommendation not to do it. Maybe my opinion will change in another 5 or 6 months if im walking at least one mile painfree and a follow up MRI shows that the tears are healed. But so far, my overall pain is pretty intense. And it's not just in the targeted hip. ALL of my joints from lower lumbar to both sides SIs, hips, knees, ankles, and now even my hands if you can believe it, have been positively screaming at me constantly from the minute they woke me up from the procedure. I'm not sure if it's an extreme flare or systemic rejection of the cells or both. Every movement is very painful. Walking even with a cane is an agony that im fairly sure most people on this site would not be able to endure based in what i read.
My diet is highly nutritional and anti inflammatory, Ive been trying light exercise and stretching, going back to a new Physical therapist this week, massage, vibration, heat, topical canna cream with high CBD, patience. Pain and inflammation are part of the healing process, positive thinking, meditation, only tylenol 8 hr when i really want to be able to move like a normal human being, body wraps are what ive been doing. Positive thinking and patience are a constant effort.
I added you to my team so i can follow your suggestions and also that you may learn something useful from mine.
We don't know what we cant do until we try. Now i know this method probably isnt one i will do again. Thanks, again, for sharing. Yours in better health, P πŸ˜ŒπŸ™

Damn hips. Had both completely torn and "hanging" in the joint. I did weeks of PT, dry needling, topical and massage. I did get IR guided steroid injections too. Eventually, both were repaired. One is still good after 3 yrs, the other tore in 2 yrs again (only partial). I must say, of all of my surgeries, those sucked the most. However, before surgery I could hardly function.

Work to strengthen your muscles. I had a shoulder labral tear which my surgeon would not let me return to work unless it was repaired. I had it repaired and 5 years later, a young lady was texting and rear ended my car. The repair was torn and I’m looking at a shoulder replacement. Absolutely will not replace the shoulder. Plus I just had a massive heart attack so no surgeon will touch me. Keep your body strong. Good luck.
