Who's Had Multiple Surgeries Because Of AS?
Same. For whatever it's worth, my 81 yr old mom with AS, RA, fibromyalgia, etc has had many structural surgeries recommendations over the decades. She has declined. Her management has been all natural and multi modal, no meds other than Tylenol. She still walks without help even from a cane although she has almost no feeling left in her feet. She socializes, shops, pokes around in her yard, does her own housework, takes care of my dad with Parkinson's. My mom in
law has Osteoarthritis. She has every surgery she is offered and is less mobile and active after each one. Now she can barely move around with a walker. Hmmm🤔🤔🤔
I've been recommended for multiple surgeries too. Based on his experience with other patients and his medical degree, a neuro spine surgeon i consulted 5 years ago gave me a year before I would come back to him begging for surgical relief. I do physical therapy regularly along with diet and supplement improvements. No surgeries yet, doing better than I was 5 years ago. I'm waiting for better procedures with better outcomes. 😌🙏
I haven’t had any but definitely not because of the drs. They really want me to. Friends that suffer like us have had some surgeries and they informed me that the nerves rejuvenated and the surgeries did not help. It only gave them more pain to deal with😢
Both my hip labrums are torn, but I'm waiting on surgery until they need to be fully replaced. I read a couple years ago in AARP about a study conducted at nursing homes on dementia care patients. The study concluded with an estimate by as much as 80% of those patients had it due to many and/or prolonged surgeries under general anesthesia. It explained that all neurotransmitter activity is ceased from general anesthesia, that is why the anesthesiologist is a dr and stays in there, they basically kill you, brain dead. It went on to say that not all connections fire up again when you are woken up. That is why people are so foggy headed post-op. I had 7 general anesthesia surgeries in my 40s. I'm now 58. I made a decision not to have any in my 50s, almost there. I now have a motto, unless being wheeled straight from the ER, no OR. I'm not suggesting anyone made a wrong choice. Only you know what you can deal with. And, of course, some are absolutely necessary, like the incarcerated abdominal hernia repair I had done at Christmas 9 years ago. I didn't want to lose my intestines and have to wear a colostomy bag strapped to my thigh to catch my poo the rest of my life. So, yeah, I completely get it. But that info was new to me and has made me decide to wait on the orthopedic repair stuff, especially when it's likely to be only a temporary fix, like the shoulder A/C joint arthroplasty i had done 10 years ago. I've been told by two neuro spine surgeons i need a lot of work on the nine herniations, stenosis causing oateophytes etc due to degenerative disc disease. I'm waiting for better procedures and results. Its coming, I've read about the future of orthopedic surgeries. In the meantime, I also read that herniations can self repair through physical therapy and I do have proof through xrays taken 6 months apart that I managed to do that at L-3 last year. Now, time for me to hit my gym.💪🦾
Thank you for your information, I am at a loss with nothing working or helping with my AS. I was wondering about surgery and this just helped me to realize that I don't need surgery that badly yet. I appreciate your information.
I do agree that surgeries will limit your mobility because I've had over 21 now and next month i will be having another one, i am unable to take all those supplements because of being allergic to so much. Most of the surgeries where life threatening so i had no choice in the matter, but i am so glad to read that you have been using natural things too help and your mom is doing so well with natural things too 🤗. There are a few things i am able to take naturally.
