Does Anyone Suffer With Low Folate Levels Alongside AS?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question šŸ’

Been feeling more exhausted than normal this past few months (always have fatigue since I can remember! But even worse recently) anyway mentioned to my GP when getting my regular bloods so added some extra tests in and had a call today I have low folate levels and have to take folic acid! Anyone else had this?

I take Folate, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D, since Inflammatory Arthritis (all types) fall under autoimmune, my Celiac causes me not to process vitamins well. I never knew how many comorbid autoimmune diseases are connected!

Yes. I take a folic acid every day along with a multivitamin and my levels stayed low. It was because I take reflux medication also. Changed my reflux med to bedtime and continued folic acid in the am, and it helped my levels. Any antacids do the same. It decreases folic acid absorption.

All begins with what we feed the body, i.e., in the gut.

My rheumatologist prescribed Folic Acid when I started on Remecade and Methotrexate.

Its common for anyone who doesn't take a "good" multi vitamin with folic acid in it. "Good" meaning one that is manufactured to promote full absorption, aka bioavailability.
