Who Is Able To Work And Who Is On Disability?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

The only reason I ask is because I read in an AS article that claimed 90% of people are able to work.
I have not been able to work for years. I just don’t see how it is possible.
Doing yard work or anything physical puts me over the edge.
I just find that number way too high.

Thank you! So far my hunch has been correct. I struggle to do everyday activities also.
My life had drastically changed and I try very hard not to let it get me down. Of course, sometimes it does. Especially when ina flare.
It is so nice to talk to people that understand.
Gentle hugs to you all! 🤗

I am so glad you asked this question, Marnee, and for all your responders. My question is, out of all of us have any of us been approved for liability primary reason being AS? Thanks, everyone.

Had symptoms and spinal issues in 1971 (11yrs old) that couldn't be diagnosed. One doctor offered the disability in 2003 after a couple knee joint surgeries, I continued to work until daily falls made it impossible. I went on disability in 2010, and unknown underlying disease was not known. Finally in 2015, a diagnosis of AS began some treatment that helped.

Hope you find support from medical staff. It might take awhile. So, glad you're here to learn and find support!

I am unable to work and have been disabled since 2016. Though I have both AS and Peripheral AS. As well as Idiopathic Small Fiber Sensory Neuropathy, Crohn's, and Scoliosis amongst some other things. I became disabled at the age of 31.
