- Inflammation:
- Spondylitis: Involves inflammation.
- Spondylosis: Does not involve inflammation.

- Age of Onset:
- Spondylitis: Often develops before age 45, with most people experiencing their first symptoms in their 20s or 30s.
- Spondylosis: Develops later in life.

- Diagnosis:
- Spondylitis: Diagnosed through imaging scans, physical exams, and blood tests for inflammatory markers and the HLA-B27 antigen.
- Spondylosis: Diagnosed through imaging scans and physical exams for pain and range of motion.

- Treatment:
- Spondylitis: Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) can slow progression.
- Spondylosis: Pain-relief measures are used, but no DMARDs are involved.

- Specialist:
- Spondylitis: Often requires a rheumatologist for diagnosis and treatment.
- Spondylosis: Typically managed by general practitioners or orthopedic specialists.

Both conditions cause back pain and affect the spine, but they are distinct in their causes, symptoms, and treatments.
