What helps me sometimes is, I use Voltaren Gel then a heat pad to help get it absorb better.
Sometimes use ice as well.
It is hard to sleep when your shoulders/arms hurt.
No matter how you try, you have to lay on them somewhere, front, side and back 😞

Orthopedic doc said not to use heat after pain gel /cream or patches. Apparently you can burn your skin.

Shoulder pain is a common issue for people with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Prevalence: About 33% of people with AS experience inflammation in their hips or shoulders.
- Symptoms: Shoulder pain can be mild but may interfere with quality of life. It can affect one or both shoulders.
- Causes:
- Adhesive Capsulitis: Also known as frozen shoulder, more common in people with AS.
- Enthesitis: Inflammation where tendons or ligaments attach to the bone.
- Posture: Compensating for AS pain can lead to a hunched-over posture, straining the shoulders.
- Prolonged Sitting: Sitting for long periods can increase the risk of shoulder pain.

- Management:
- Medications: Over-the-counter NSAIDs like naproxen (Aleve) and ibuprofen (Advil) can help.
- Home Remedies: Heat, gentle stretches, and massages can provide relief.
- Exercise: Regular exercise, including swimming and specific exercises recommended by a specialist, can help maintain mobility and reduce pain.
- Mindfulness and Deep Breathing: These techniques can aid in pain relief.

- Consultation: It's important to talk to a rheumatologist to pinpoint the root cause and find the most effective treatment.

As I am sitting here in terrible pain from my shoulder I came across this. I have AS and I cannot believe the pain my shoulder and arm have been in the past 3 months. I have had multiple shots as well and no relief. I hope we can find some answers to help us.
