Craig my husband went through it too and he just reached his 2nd year and starts his Medicare in June then in December he turns 65 and gets on regular Medicare as he will then go from SSD to SS. If you are close to your 65th bd then I highly suggest you talk to someone about another insurance along with the Medicare A and B it truly helps with the bills believe me. Right at my 65th bd, I ended in the hospital for 46 days and with my Medicare A and B and my other insurance policy I never saw a bill and while in I had three surgeries and then on top I had to have a pacemaker put in while during that time frame. And to not see a bill at all that is great. And like someone else said to you that you can go to the DHS or Welfare office whatever it's called where you are and get help with paying for your part B payment monthly as I also have that help.
Craig I hope what I have shared will help you.

I would love to have your system. I have no idea why people here are so freaked out about having it. We are so behind the times it’s so scary.

When I got SSD, I was moved from Medical to Medicare within a month. Look at the date on your Medicare Part A&B card. But, my Medicare payments went back to the date they approved my disability. 7 yrs ago. . All treatments done after those date are paid by by SSD Medicare. All treatments done prior to SSD are paid by Medicaid.
There should be no wait period at all. Once they label you disabled, you are eligible for Medicare as of the date they make you disabled. Confusing I know. Congratulations on getting SSD.
Good luck to you.
