@A MySpondylitisTeam Member i've got other conditions that actually contraindicate when it comes to any narcotics. Since my other health issues are very nerve related, they are a big no-no. Beside the "normal" side effects that affect cognitive function, opioid induced neurotoxicity is a big concern for my doctors, and things like hyperalgesia. I have been on dilaudid while i was in hospital, but my pain doctor got me off it as soon as i was discharged from hospital. It's definitely not a good long term solution, as least not for my particular collection of conditions - every person has a unique situation. And I definitely don't want to find myself in a position where the pain meds i'm taking ends up amplifying my sensitivity to pain, thereby making it worse, that just sounds like a bad cycle I don't want to be stuck in!

I have noticed while living in Australia that medications with codeine are as readily available as vitamins on the shelf. Yet topicals with an antibiotic ingredient, such as neosporin and bacitracin, are only available by prescription. Those were two of the different policies for consumer availability that I and others from the US were surprised by. Even though i have constant pain from neck to toes in varying degrees that often makes it difficult for me to walk from bedroom to kitchen, open a water bottle, put on shoes, brush teeth, etc, I believe the search for total pain relief through that level of narcotic is a self perpetuating march to unrelievable misery and ultimately near vegetative if not completely mentally disabled condition. I want to experience life and i know that choosing to continue my previously inflammation inducing dietary vices and mindless physical activities will prohibit me from ever regaining painfree daily activities. It does not make common sense to me to be striving towards pain free while still imbibing in known inflammatory substances. For simple concept, if dust allergens are the culprit, put on a mask and gloves then wipe all the dust in the house up and put an air purifier in the bedroom. Sugar is a long well known inflammation inducer, and that includes the sugar found in all alcohol. If your pain is from an autoimmune arthritis, QUIT DRINKING alcohol people🀦, even one glass of wine or one beer at celebrations. πŸ™„ Don't shoot the messenger, i was once nicknamed "shotsy" by a group of friends. I know how to enjoy a great coctail. But now my coctails are made from water, coconut water, and lime juice. I call it a water cocktail. And i still have a great time with all the drunks around me. πŸ₯³πŸ₯‚

There are many issues here and updated physician regulations due to the opioid crisis here. What is sad, is doctors are very reluctant to give pain medications unless absolutely needed and even then, sometimes insurance will only pay for one weeks worth. That is what my insurance does with Tramadol.
