Taltz Or Cosentyx?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Diagnosed nr-axspa 2019. Tried nsaids. Barely touched pain. Rheumatologist recommends biologic next. Anyone have experience with these for nr-axspa? Pain is so ugly...

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. @A MySpondylitisTeam Member. I was on OTC Nsaids for years, then tried 5 biologics at my Rheumi's suggestion. First was Humira, nothing; then Cosentyx, worse psoriasis and infection; then Enbrel, worse and new psoriasis, inverse genital that split my labia on one side; then Orencia, nothing; then Skyrizi, psoriasis cleared 90% but didn't help with arthritis at all. None of the biologics did anything at all for my full body involved Psoriatic Spondylitis. I have 9 bulging/herniated discs with a whole bunch of other crapola going on. My bloodwork was always perfect other than off and on ANA and C-reactive, never far out of green, just a little occasionally. After going down the bios yellow brick road my bloodwork showed NAFLD (liver trouble), then extreme drop in white blood cells, neutropenia and 2 bouts of acute bronchitis and sinusitis as a result, then drop in red blood cells and high CO2, then Acute Kidney Injury, perfect kidneys to stage 4 kidney disease in just 6 weeks. Suspicious cysts everywhere. Was sent to a Hematologist who said it was all due to the biologics and OTCs.

I'm not a purist who turns up their nose at modern medicine. Not in the least. Better living through chemistry until it starts to kill you is my motto. Indeed, I just went through stem cell transplant therapy. I'm all about modern medicine. However, when I quit all the meds, amped up my antioxidants and put the kibosh on ALL ultra processed foods and alcohol and drastically cut sugar, no salt, kept up with PT, upped protein intake, my brain fog evaporated, energy soared, overall average daily pain went from 7/8 to a 2/3. Just me. I know we're all different. I hope the bios help everyone. But from what I've read on this and other forums is that they never take care of all of it, rarely last long before they need to change, and quite frequently cause extreme side affects that are worse than the pain of arthritis. Afterall, how can something concocted by blending human DNA and Chinese hamster ovaries that is not tested for to see if the patient even needs it be a good thing?

I may go back to trying bios someday. But first I'll get a cytokine panel to determine exactly which one i need before blindly throwing darts in the dark at my immune system. Consider getting that test before adding more to your cauldron of troubles.😌🙏

I aswell have nr-axSpA. I'm currently on cosentyx.
I've never tried taltz, as cosentyx was recommended by two rheumatologists.
I abused nsaid's too much because of the pain.
I still have residual pain in my si joints, hips, and spin.
Controversially exercise makes me hurt more, my degraded hips, arthritis, and near fused si joints make the pain increase when I try regular exercise.
If I over do exercise, im bed ridden for a day or two.
I first tried remicad then had to upgrade because of onset kidney failure. (Nsaid's made it worse).
Eventually I will increase my dose of cosentyx when I get off of my kidney medication to see if I can improve more. (Time will tell).
Ultimately whichever you choose. If one medication doesn't work to your liking, it is still a possibility to switch medication.
It's important to know that it can take a few weeks for relief, as the medication takes time.
For me, cosentyx is a self injection. I don't now much about taltz unfortunately, im still young in my medication game.
Hope this info help a little.

Hi @A MySpondylitisTeam Member, thank you for responding. Thing is, I'm not looking to just medicine to help this. I exercise, stretch, eat VERY healthy, take recommended supplements, have seen PT and still have pain. I am miserable. And you are correct, I would do what it takes to make it better. I have sacrificed a lot. I have four children I homeschool. I also have Multiple Sclerosis. I tried the nutritional ketosis for over a year (very little change). Then switched to plant based. No change. Heading to carnivore next. But I do believe God has blessed us with medicine for some things. Not to be a first go-to... but a help. I'm still pressing on!

Medications, even biologics, rarely, if ever, solve everything. If you dont stop the toxic cause of your inflammatory response, taking meds is no better than putting a drugstore bandaid on a cut artery. You must first cleanse and repair the wound. Same thing with cellular activity throughout the body. You must stop the toxic ingestion, turn over damaged cells and clear them out, change what you put in your body, then be patient while your cells that took years to go bad take time to be replaced. If you're miserable enough you will do what it takes even if it means sacrifice and hard work. Otherwise, anyone is just whining for the sake of pity.

Thanks y'all! @A MySpondylitisTeam Member, breathing is important! I struggle with that due to Multiple Sclerosis.
@A MySpondylitisTeam Member, how is taltz better for you? Pain? Stiffness?
