I have not, but have done strictly restricted carbs . Doing so does lead to some weight loss while eating this way . The weight came back fairly easily after adding some carbs back into my diet. I found for me , cutting out any food groups in nutrition doesn’t work. My job is to eat things in balanced portions. Limiting foods that increase inflammation can help during flares. Hope this helps somehow.

Hi @A MySpondylitisTeam Member , thank you for sharing your experience. I am thinking about to start this diet but I know it's so strict, so hard. One thing I learned reading a book about this diet is the iodine test. Have you heard about it? You add a drop of iodine to any food and it will turn into a dark color if it have any type of starch (of course you need to discard this piece of food with iodine because it's toxic lol). I hope you are feeling good today!

I have not. Have tried many, though. In my reading, there are so many diets that patients and professionals recommend. My personal feeling is that food is not the cause (maybe an aggravating factor) of this. That said, eating well is always of benefit. The best diet I have done is the Esselstyn diet for heart disease. https://www.dresselstyn.com/site/plant-based-nu...
I felt great! It is an anti-inflammatory diet. Geared more to the blood vessels. But, it is almost impossible to stay on. May try it again, but it is difficult. No meat. No dairy. No eggs. No oils. Only one kind of nut. Just veggies. No processed food. I got back to my high school weight.
Recently tried eliminating the night shade vegetables. That did nothing but eliminate a lot of iron and vitamin c. Diet is probably like medications for this disease. It is what works for you.

Years ago I bought the iodine, but unfortunately never followed through with it. With everything, I can get overwhelmed and not be as proactive except with a number of things....if that makes sense.

It is definitely a tricky diet, but I have found that it definitely helps me. Unfortunately, I have to restrict more than maybe others. I don't tolerate any fruit and only very low starch vegetables. I can have any untreated meat, parmesan and sharp cheddar cheese, walnuts & almonds, and cream & butter. It definitely helps to keep your weight down, but only if you stay true to the regimen. If I am not on this diet, my pain and periods of inflammation/flu yuck feels and fatigue, etc, definitely increase. My case does seem to be fairly severe though as I have already fused in my spine and now my right rib is beginning to fuse.
It is definitely worth it for me, but it is also difficult to stay on such a strict regimen. I have recently experimented with different keto products and a few are semi-okay, but then I do gain weight.
Good luck!!
