@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Please accept my apology! I went into my dietary improvement speech and forgot to mention the topical nail treatment I use🤦‍♀️😁.

Burts Bees Lemon Butter Curicle Cream. Even before Psoriatic Spondylitis started trying to take over, as a Master Gardener constantly digging in the dirt and using drying chemicals, even though wearing heavy gloves, my nails have constantly suffered, This cuticle treatment has been the best I've found out of dozens over the years for restoring strength to my nails and softness to the hardened splitting cuticles. Good luck😌🙏

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Hi Dawn!🤗

Great nails! I have been taking 5000 units of biotin and eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day. It does help. Yours sounds more intense.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Problem nails, while listed as a symptom of psoriasis and spondylitis, are an indicator of a bigger problem with overall dietary nutrition, which definitely makes psoriasis and Spondylitis much worse. My own chronic medical condition is Psoriatic Spondylitis and it has tried, but not succeeded, to completely consume me.

My first step in the comeback fight against being completely incapacitated by this awful disease was to significantly increase my protein and plant nutritional intake.

I did a Google search on necessary daily protein and read that for sedentary adults it is .35 × body weight. I estimated that at the time, 3-4 years ago, I was only getting about 30 grams per day. I'm 113 pounds so I need 40 grams per day just to sit on the couch all day.

At 55 years of age (now 58), I don't want to just sit on the couch all day. I have a life to live, but I had overwhelming crushing exhaustion and whole body pain constantly. No wonder! I was undernourished! Because I engage in physical therapy a minimum of 4 days a week, and because a body under constant assault needs to repair constantly, I surmised that I would need a minimum of an extra 20 grams protein daily to be able to live my life and heal my body. For me, that means 60-70 grams protein a day are necessary for optimal functioning and healing.

To bring my daily protein intake up without gaining a lit of unwanted extra weight I found a hydrolyzed collagen protein powder sourced from grass-fed beef. I started adding a scoop to my coffee in the morning as well as to a 6 fruit and veggie smoothie for lunch daily. What this has done for me is evident in my nails. Below is a pic of one hand just now taken. The other hand is the same. They used to be thin, peeling, splitting, and quit growing. Now I'm filing them down every week. The results in the rest of my body have been the same, hair, skin, energy, and with the help of diet, overall body pain reduction, improved energy and mental clarity.

I'm back, almost to my pre-chronic self. For everything else I've done to regain my health see my profile page and updates. There may not be a cure, but there is definitely an improvement available to anyone willing to give up the triggers to inflammation and undertake the steps necessary for better health and vitality. All the best to you.😌🙏

I was diagnosed with spondylitis 2012 and really wasn't sure what this consisted of other than very bad pain through most of my body. I had no idea it affected my nails. I just thought I had bad nails. I have been putting oil on my nails daily also wearing gloves when doing dishes. It has helped greatly. I researched oils to get the most beneficial effects on my nails. I am waiting on a delivery of jojoba oil currently. It seems to have the beneficial nutrients needed for nails, skin and hair.
