I am a nurse. Although disabled now due to my AS. Unfortunately once there is Kidney disease, there is no reversal, but you can do things to prevent further damage. Diet, keep blood pressure under control, exercise, maintain a healthy weight, stop smoking, limit alcohol, & manage stress (lol). I have CKD stage 2, but was diagnosed prior to being diagnosed with AS. So not sure if it’s related. I do not smoke, I have lots of stress (of course), i should exercise more, I drink rarely, I am not overweight, my BP is fine. But now I am on a biologic. So I have my kidney labs checked every 6 months. Just to watch.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member. Yes. Hope we get some good detailed answers and not broad spectrum generalities like eat right. Presently major universities have reversed their device fro now or no fat and high carb to the opposite which is Mediterranean but lower carb and using olive oil and lean proteins with an emphasis on veggies. Kidney of course depends on stage as sometimes must eat low protein in early stage and high protein on dialysis. People with out diseases should probably get elastoscans on liver as often high alt and ast liver enzymes do t show up until end stage non reversible disease which is what happened to me. Had I not asked for a liver scan I would not have found out at all until irreversible death was near. I’m at a stage where it can at least be slowed maybe. I also had abdominal ct and discovered swollen kidney but no doctor has addressed it yet or stated the cause, presently they are checking me for new autoimmune diseases. I posted a liver question too Brian2 so look for that question as well.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC26... Article on how olive oil affects liver and inflammation. I have cut salt way way down. That is helping everything. I don’t cook with salt at all, just herbs. I allow what little salt is in my dairy and limited bread. I simulate salt flavor with lemon juice and garlic powder.

@A MySpondylitisTeam Member, Thank you for sharing important information about kidney disease, scars and the Rezdiffra medication. Huge hug to you! I have not tried it. But, it will be in my notes should the tests show my need, just heading in that direction. Timely, to hear. You are a blessing.
