I used to get what I’d call a “heart attack” feeling where the pain and squeezing in my chest and around my back literally took my breath away. Then I started getting pain in my ribs, and my rheumatologist prescribed sulfasalazine. The pain stopped. It turns out the pain is from costochondritis, and it is a known symptom of AS. If this a form of what you are experiencing, there is help! Talk to your doctor … and good luck!!

I’m not sure how common. I’ve had sternum pain so bad I’ve went to ER twice for a steroid shot. And have AS for +50 years that’s about the worse.

Yes, before I was diagnosed with AS I experienced excruciating chest, rib, sternum pain and frozen shoulders. The pain would often be in my armpit.

Hi Monti - My rx is for 4/day (2 in the morning and 2 at night) but talk to your doctor about what is right for your body at this time. Best wishes!
