Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is indeed a disease characterized by inflammation. The treatments aim to reduce this inflammation, which in turn helps manage the disease. Here are some key points:

- TNF-alpha Inhibitors: These drugs block a chemical called tumor necrosis factor, which causes inflammation. By reducing inflammation, they slow the progression of joint damage and other symptoms of AS.
- Examples: Adalimumab (Humira), Certolizumab pegol (Cimzia), Etanercept (Enbrel), Golimumab (Simponi), Infliximab (Remicade).

- NSAIDs: These are often the first treatment tried. They reduce inflammation and pain.
- Examples: Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen (Aleve).

- Biologic DMARDs: These are designed to suppress specific aspects of the immune system to reduce inflammation.
- Examples: TNF-alpha inhibitors, Interleukin inhibitors.

- JAK Inhibitors: A newer class of drugs that also target inflammation pathways.

- Physical Therapy: Helps increase strength and flexibility, which can alleviate symptoms.

By targeting inflammation, these treatments help manage the symptoms and progression of AS.

A late diagnosis when treated with a biologic can slow or stop the progression of AS, but damage done can be chronically painful. I really notice how well my biologic works if ever I forget my injection..
