To help alleviate severe neck pain and migraines associated with ankylosing spondylitis, consider the following strategies from the knowledge base:

Home Remedies:
- Heat Therapy: Use an electric heating pad, hot water compress, or microwavable heating pad. A warm bath or shower can also help. Be cautious not to overheat compresses or use water that is too hot.

Medications:
- Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Aleve (Naproxen) and Ibuprofen can help relieve neck pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
- Prescription Medications: If NSAIDs are not effective, your doctor may prescribe other anti-inflammatory medications, such as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) or biologics.

Physical Therapy:
- Exercises: A physical therapist can create a program of exercises to build strength and keep your neck flexible. They can also help you maintain good posture to reduce pressure on your neck.

Alternative Treatments:
- Acupuncture: This traditional Chinese medicine technique involves inserting thin needles into specific parts of the body to alleviate pain. Studies have shown promising results for reducing neck pain and improving sleep quality.

Additional Tips:
- Mindfulness and Meditation: Techniques like yoga breathing and guided meditations can help manage pain by reducing emotional and mental strain.
- Proper Pillow: Using an extra-firm pillow may help prevent daily headaches.

Emergency Signs:
- If you experience sudden onset of severe pain, slurred speech, vision changes, confusion, balance problems, vomiting, fever, or a stiff neck, seek emergency care immediately.

Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment or therapy.
