My Son Is Hoping For Some Relief With His AS With His New Medicine

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son was diagnosed with AS a few years ago. He is now 36. He is going to start Humira in a few days. I was wondering if anyone else who is currently on Humira is having good results and what side effects you may be experiencing.

Thank you so much Danielle. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with me. I will let my son know and I hope he has a similarly positive response. I will pray that you find something to help you get some pain relief!

Hi Michelle I am sorry to hear that your son was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis being 38 years old I can understand his pain and what he is going through. I will say I was origin ally started out on Humira and it took about 3 months for me to start seeing a result. I can say though that once it started working It was the first time in 6 years I had so much relief of my pain. I was able to start standing for more then 10 minutes and I started walking without much pain. I eventually was able to start walking 5 miles
2× to 3× a week and not hurt. I did end up though getting extremely debilitating headaches that would not go away for days at a time. Nothing would relieve them and my eyes would hurt and my entire head. So my Doctor decided to change my Biologic. Looking back though I would rather have dealt with the headaches and had very little pain. It allowed me to enjoy time with my kids and do things I could not have done before the Humira. Since I have been put on 2 other biologics, 1 I don't.know how it would have worked which is Cimzia because my endurance decided after 2 doses they wanted me to try Enbrel first for 6 months. For me Enbrel did nothing and I am 8 months in and I am back in excrutiating pain daily with no relief. I am not a Doctor though and All meds even Biologics work differently for everyone. For me personally though I want to just go back on Humira and regain my life back again and cope with the headaches which were the only side effect I had. Hope this helps and I hope your son starts doing better.
