Cleaning Tips For AS Patients: Let's Start A List!
Time savers, quicker/simpler ways of cleaning, when to ask for help, the most effective way to ask for help, when to hire help.... Your tip?
I donβt have much of a response either. Itβs hard because I do a little bit at a time. By the time I finish, the stuff I started with is dirty again. π€£ Very good question and I look forward to the responses.
We tossed our fabric covered couches and replaced them with pleather. We also have two cats, long haired, and they sleep on cozy plush blankets on the couches. No more couch vacuuming needed. π
I do what I can do with lots of breaks. I live in a small apartment though, so depending on how deep the cleaning is, I can do about only 2 rooms a day. I may not be as able the next day though, as my back cannot handle much.
Tip: Pet Friendly Furniture Coverings
I remember visiting relatives in their 80's who had severe rheumatoid arthritis. They used old sheets to cover the furniture when not being used. It cut down on dust in their chairs and couches, requiring less cleaning and vacuuming. These were smart women who knew how best to use their resources and abilities.
So, ... I online shopped until I found a solution. I bought pet friendly furniture coverings. They protect furniture from all stains, hair/fur, and snags. Since we have 2 cats and sometimes host 1 or 2 dogs. They're a lot easier just to throw in the washing machine once in a awhile. Furniture now has little dust and looks great for either people or animal guests.
I agree and identify with all of it. I put my small dust collecting collectibles behind glass so I don't need to dust them years before I began crumbling into dust myself.ππ I used to dust my home growing up and my parents had tons of artifacts they collected when my dad was traveling in the military. Lots of now "no-no" hand carved pieces from Africa and Asia. It was okay to dust each one individually back then because it got me out of yard work!π
It just now occurs to me to do it the way dad did prior to meeting my mom. He and his roommates just dropped another layer of newspaper on the floor to cover what needed vacuuming or mopping. For the bathroom, they painted it black top to bottom to hide the mold etc.!π
Seriously though, a good roomba is a life saver. Even lightweight swiffers and vacuums are tough for me now with my arthritic shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers. Swiffer long handled dusters are helpful when I need to find a piece of furnitureπ. Toilet bowl drop ins are easy. If anyone ever comes over and comments on the need for something to be cleaned, I will point them to the cleaning supplies and thank them for getting on it.π Happily, I got rid of future interactions of that person, my mother in law, last year after she behaved inappropriately at my home when I made dinner for her. She's no longer welcome until she apologizes and that will never happen. Now I never need to clean house again! Where's that black paint?π
