Methotrexate

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Atlanta, GA

Anyone have recently taken methotrexate? I started 3 weeks ago for my spondylitis pain/muscle pain. My GI dr may also start me on Hunira, so just trying to see anyone’s experiences…

I’m my experience and my doctors methotrexate is the most tolerated (shot wise) and it’s easier to stop and restart if necessary. Other meds like Humira etc when stopped it will lose its ability to treat you any longer. That really stinks. I was stopped and restarted on Humira and now I’m no longer a candidate for it. I definitely needed to be on the shot version because the pills can cause a lot of GI issues which you may know already. So far so good and I’ve been on it for a number of months now. I do get the “hangover “ from it some times. Some times the day after and sometimes it’s the second day. But I am finally reaping benefits from it. I’m glad you are getting ready to try it. Hope it helps.

I was on methotrexate for about 5 years. Took folic acid as well. I tolerated it very well. She took me off when my symptoms took a turn for the worst and put me on simponi aria. Simponi helped alot!

Thanks for your answers. @A MySpondylitisTeam Member - I am taking the oral version. My rheum told me to take folic acid to help with side effects. 3rd week and so far so good.. i am very tired the night I take it and a couple of days after, but hopefully that wil get better. I also have colitis, so stomach problems aren’t really new..
