Does Anyone Have Big Issues With Cramping And Spasms
That is a BIG YES. Spasms begin in my toes, and move upwards to my ankle, across the top of my foot and up into my calves and front of my lower legs, then up to just above my knee….usually at night, but also intermittently during the day.
I can just move a little, or turn over in bed , or even be walking on even ground, and they start up.
For me, it is unclear if it is the AS or a spine condition that I have (syrinx in spinal column) at the thoracic level.
I have found relief with a supplement called COQ10 UBIQUINOL. I started with 1 tab every evening and have stayed on that dose for 3 years now. I also take magnesium supplement.
Others I know have had to increase their dosage over time. I have gone from spasms ongoing for an hour or two, every few minutes, to spasms maybe once or twice a day.
There are other forms on CoQ10 but the ubiquinol is more readily absorbed. Always check with your doctor before starting a new med or supplement.
Any of the big name drug stores carry it and have promotions for buy 1 , get 1 free or 1/2 off. It is not cheap, but it does offer me relief. It took about 2 weeks to kick in.
Good luck to you. Spasms are painful!
Yes, I've always had big problems with muscle cramps. However, I've discovered if you drink slimline tonic regularly. It's the only thing that has stopped it.
Unlike most of the responses here, my spasms are all in my back, which is what prompted me to seek further diagnostics in the first place. They are so hard and so strong that they can stop me as I'm walking, and cause me to hold my breath until they pass (which can be fun when crossing the road!) They are also brought on by sudden movement, or sudden changes in a walking surface (such as a dip in the pavement that I didn't see coming), or driving over a pothole or other uneven road surface. I haven't found anything that takes them away completely, but I have noticed a decrease in severity with a combination of Meloxicam and Tizanidine.
I have suffered from severe cramps both at night, mostly, and during the day. My doctor suggested Alpha Lipoic Acid. I take the brand Nervive which also has calcium. I take one at night with Melatonin. I also take Co Q10 with my regular meds. I still get minor cramps but no where near as bad as before. The cramps were so bad that my foot would turn upside down and curve inward. My Rheumatologist suggested that sugar levels could be the cause since I’m diabetic but so far my sugar has been under control but I also have nerve damage. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes, my feet and legs. Muscle relaxer and ibuprofen help me a little.
