How Do You Deal With Loneliness?

A MySpondylitisTeam Member asked a question 💭

My "friends" dropped me after my diagnosis and I couldn't be spontaneous with activities. I can't work and have no friends to even TRY to do things with. Does anyone else experience this?

Members connected deeply over the painful experience of losing friends after diagnosis, with many sharing that their so-called friends disappeared because they couldn't understand chronic illness or cope with the unpredictability it brings. Several members found comfort in practical coping strategies like getting a mobility scooter for independence, walking daily for mental health, staying connected with long-distance friends through calls and emails, and treating this online community as their new support system where understanding flows freely. A recurring theme was the vital role of faith and spirituality in combating loneliness, with many members describing prayer, gratitude practices, and belief in a higher power as essential anchors that remind them they are never truly alone even in their darkest moments.

YES! If people don't go through a similar situation they don't understand. They do not know how to deal with our illnesses. I have lost many people in my life. But I have true friends that are my forever friends that I love dearly. The problem is we all live in different states.

I’m sorry to hear that you feel lonely at times. I do too I watch tick-tock‘s with the dogs talking and doing different activities and dressing up. That makes me laugh and feel really good. I love dogs so that works for me. And also to what works for me first and foremost is praying in the name of Jesus that helps tremendously is knowing that God is always with me and when I realize that I know that I’m never alone.

Yes I too have lost friends due to this disease. Part of the issue is I've moved around a lot to different states so I have friends in every state. Sometimes they call me and that's helpful but most of the time I'm finding I'm calling them. I do have to save my very best friend Ellie has always been there with me and for me. She's coming to visit in October and I just can't wait. She was to come visit actually would be here right now but she came down with the dreadly disease of covid. This these are our friends now our support group here even though we don't see each other in person we can support each other. In my story I have my email address so if anyone wants to write they're more than welcome to.

We are on the Delaware River in NJ, but ... not as far up as The Water Gap! We're a small town between Frenchtown & Reiglesville, beautiful area, we love it here!! It is a dreary weekend here as well. We had an awesome thunderstorm yesterday, today is a li'l quieter. Enjoy your Sunday & God Bless!!!🌼
